John McKenzie and Supertramp interest - 1970 Fender Precision bass guitar, made in USA, ser. no. 285996; Body: sunburst finish, heavy wear throughout including large buckle rash, finish loss to edges, thumb indentation to bass side of pickguard etc; Neck: maple, dings and other marks; Fretboard: rosewood; Frets: mild wear; Electrics: working, replaced potentiometers; Hardware: replacement Bad Ass Bass 1 bridge, damage to corner of pickguard, missing bridge and pickup covers, missing thumb rest; Case: contemporary American Standard Fender hard case; Weight: 3.79kg; Overall condition: fair *According to John McKenzie's family, John had stated that he acquired this bass, circa 1974, from Dougie Thomson of Supertramp and that this was one of John's main bass guitars until he acquired his 1990 Fender Jazz Bass Plus five string (lot 629). It was used on tour and in many sessions for multiple artists. The guitar can be seen in stills and video footage with many artists as far back as 'Man' in 1976. The bass can also be seen in the image used for his Obituary in The Guardian. He later played live and recorded with artists such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Seal, Eurythmics, The Pretenders, Phil Manzanera, Alison Moyet, Wham!, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Steve Hillage, Lionel Richie and many more.
