Langdon often told the story that his guitar was one of two acoustic instruments made by renowned British luthier Tony Zemaitis for Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green. This claim was later supported in an article written by Zemaitis himself for the Z Gazette. He recalled how Green had visited his workshop to have his Les Paul serviced and set up. During the visit, Green asked Tony to build him a six-string acoustic “blues” guitar. Tony responded by making two, giving Green the option to choose his favourite. On the evening of 23rd December 1970, Green spent hours switching between the two guitars, eventually choosing the one with the “warmer sound.” As Langdon mixed in similar circles at the time, he was in the right place at the right time to acquire the remaining guitar and from then on it never left his side. Langdon was a prolific satirical comedy writer who cut his teeth on popular BBC radio programmes such as Week Ending and The News Quiz, before immersing himself in the emerging alternative comedy scene. He joined up with impressionist Rory Bremner in 1984, with whom he collaborated and became great friends for the rest of his life. He was also an accomplished musician and, from their time playing at the infamous Borshtch ‘n’ Tears restaurant in Knightsbridge during the 1960s, he and virtuoso balalaika player Bibs Ekkel formed a long-standing musical partnership. Under the pseudonym Vanya Podzhopnikov, Langdon was a regular performer touring the world, and also recording several albums with Ekkel, as the duo Bibs and Vanya. This Zemaitis guitar features prominently on nearly every Bibs and Vanya album cover, at that time still sporting its original double-shell pickguard, which has since been removed.
