Provenance from the Bonhams auction came in the form of a letter from the then vendor's sister, who acquired the items following the Jimi Hendrix Experience concert at the Pier Pavilion, Worthing, 23rd February 1967. She stated that 'Jimi was booed off the stage at the Pier Pavilion. Fats let me and Sue into the dressing room to see him and Mitch. He left by the back door and said we could have his change of clothes and that Worthing was a s**t place' A shirt and tie also in this group of items was sold as lot 638, Bonhams London, 25th April 1996 The current owner and vendor of the boots purchased them via an agent from the original 2005 Bonhams buyer, who is a collector of Jimi Hendrix memorabilia. The original Bonhams buyer is known to Gardiner Houlgate and has confirmed the authenticity (see ex lot 697 - Gardiner Houlgate 12th and 13th June 2019). It is his name and address that appears on the original Bonhams invoice. This lot is sold with copy receipts of the Bonhams purchase, a copy of the original letter of provenance that was supplied with lot 672 at the Bonhams auction and the Bonhams part lot number tags
