'The Black Strat', an iconic guitar that was a cornerstone of Pink Floyd's sound, featuring extensively on 'The Dark Side of the Moon', 'Wish You Were Here', 'Animals', 'The Wall' and his critically acclaimed 2006 solo album 'On The Island'. The Custom Shop worked closely with David Gilmour and his longtime guitar technician Phil Taylor to create his signature model and reproduce an accurate replica of what has since become a record selling electric guitar at auction, realising ,975,000 in the David Gilmour auction on 21st June 2019. The guitar features a black nitrocellulose relic lacquer finish on alder body, black pickguard, one-piece maple neck, custom wound pickups with Gilmour's own distinctive electronics, and shortened vintage tremolo arm. The guitar comes complete with its original custom case, Evidence Audio high-end guitar cable, guitar strap and Phil Taylor's Black Strat book. This example is an early edition that was made in the third year of release with a certificate of authenticity signed off by the highly regarded director of the Fender Custom Shop Mike Eldred. It is claimed by many that the guitars made in this earlier period were a more precise replica than the later examples, which can be seen when comparing this example to others that have recently come onto the market. Fender's partnership with David Gilmour came to an end in 2019, resulting in this now out-of-production model seeing a significant rise in value and presenting an interesting opportunity for future investment.
